RCMP Youth Academy -

on HOLD 2020 - 2021

The Lower Mainland RCMP Youth Academy is a cooperative partnership between the RCMP detachments of Burnaby, Coquitlam, North Vancouver, Richmond, Surrey and the respective school districts within their jurisdictions. The Youth Academy has operated since 1995 and it continues to evolve in order to meet the new requirements of all the partners. The Youth Academy was created to provide career exploration for students through a simulated work experience and build positive relations between youth, parents and the police.

The Youth Academy is an eight-day adventure for 50 students.  The objective for the youth who participate in RCMP Youth Academy program is to confirm their interest in policing as a career.

The Youth Academy has a selection process for students to complete before being offered a position to attend the Youth Academy. The application package that includes an essay explaining their view of a police officer role in today’s society also requires signatures of support from their counselor, a teacher and the principal. The student must then complete a physical fitness test and if they pass that stage they have a structured interview. The police also receive an authorization to conduct a police records checks prior to the interview to ensure that student’s has no involvement in criminal activities. The top ten candidates from each district are invited to attend the Youth Academy.
